30 min timed speed painting "It's Dusk In The Pleasure Gardens of the Samphire King..."

Speed Paint Challenge / The Paperback Challenge #5

so the reason why i went for a image of a cocoon is because i fought it was a bit more subtle then just going for a straight drawing of a beetle and a man and as i did a quick browse of google to look at the old covers a saw that this was a common look if this was going to print i would also fade the image so it was less vivid seeing as this is a speed painting i think its fine to leave it how it is.
Franz Kafka / The Metamorphosis (1915)

"The story begins with a traveling salesman, Gregor Samsa, waking to find himself transformed into a large, monstrous insect-like creature. The cause of Gregor's transformation is never revealed, and Kafka himself never gave an explanation. The rest of Kafka's novella deals with Gregor's attempts to adjust to his new condition as he deals with being burdensome to his parents and sister, who are repulsed by the horrible, verminous creature Gregor has become."

Speed Paint Challenge / The Paperback Challenge #2 H.G. Wells / The Island Of Dr Moreau (1896) "The Island of Doctor Moreau

i went for a minimalist cover
"The Island of Doctor Moreau is an 1896 science fiction novel by H. G. Wells, who called it "an exercise in youthful blasphemy". The text of the novel is the narration of Edward Prendick, a shipwrecked man rescued by a passing boat who is left on the island home of Doctor Moreau, who creates human-like beings from animals via vivisection. The novel deals with a number of philosophical themes, including pain and cruelty, moral responsibility, human identity, and human interference with nature."
